SEAGO provides homebuyer education and counseling in the areas of budget, credit, lending, real estate and title. SEAGO also guides prospective homebuyers in the process of determining thier eligibility for assistance.
A down payment and closing cost assistance program from the Arizona Department of Housing administered by SEAGO. In FY 05, 332 families completed homeownership education and 120 families purchased homes.
Families, including single individuals, who have not owned a home in the last three years and whose yearly income does not exceed certain limits. The Income Limits (PDF) document shows the income limits by family size. When a Family is eligible, it does not automatically qualify to buy a home. The family must apply to a bank or mortgage company for a home loan and must meet the lender’s requirements.
If a family is receiving 10 or 15 percent assistance under the Homes for Arizonans Program we require a closing date of 45 days from the date the contract is signed. A contract cannot be signed until after the family has completed the Homeownership Education classes.
For families receiving 5 percent assistance under the Homes for Arizonans Mortgage Credit Certificate or Mortgage Revenue Bond Programs we require a closing date of 30 days from the date the contract is signed.
A homebuyer whose income is over 80 percent of AMI may participate in either the homeownership counseling classes or homeownership on-line counseling at mgichome.com and entering the password homebuyer@housingaz.com, or by checking with the agency administering the program in your area for further details.
Delays will occur if the family has not fulfilled its obligation of sending in their application and back-up documentation or requested additional information.
